Police: 17-year-old fatally stabbed near East 193rd Street

A 17-year-old has died after a violent stabbing in Fordham, according to police.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when a group of group of males got into some sort of dispute, ending in 17-year-old Pernell Pompey being stabbed multiple times, according to police.
Police say a bystander called 911 after Pompey was seen running to a nearby bodega near East 193rd Street and Decatur Avenue, collapsing in front of it.
EMS transported Pompey to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are treating the incident as a homicide.
Police say they are looking for the group of males they believe are responsible.
Employees at the bodega say surveillance cameras at the store were not working Wednesday night.

Police told News 12 that Pompey had a violent criminal past with multiple drug and weapons charges. His longtime landlord also told News 12 that he was involved with drugs and that his mother had been trying to get him on a better path for years.
Joseph Campbell, a friend of the victim, was shocked at the brutal death of Pompey.
"He was about all the jokes, very comical and that's what I liked about him, I liked his positive energy," says Campbell. "He was a good guy. He wasn't really all about trouble."
