Police release footage of possible suspect in Bushwick synagogue attack
Police released surveillance video of a person they want to question in connection to an attack on a synagogue during the sabbath.
The incident happened at Chabad of Bushwick at 1087 Flushing Ave. around 2:10 a.m. Saturday.
Police say two unknown males threw an object through the synagogue's window, shattering it.
The founder of Chabad of Bushwick on Flushing Avenue says he was in the middle of shabbat dinner when the incident took place. It is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
People of different faiths came together Tuesday to show solidarity with the chabad as police search for the suspects. Idris Abdullah handed over a $500 check from his Muslim community for repairs. The Bushwick Food Co-op also came by with a card and a bag of groceries.
Police say hate crimes have spiked since last year. Anti-Semitic crimes in particular make up over 65 percent of all hate crimes the NYPD has investigated since the beginning of the year.
The rabbi at Chabad of Bushwick says he is only more empowered to rebuild, making sure it will always be a place where everyone feels welcome.
