Artist’s mural brings ‘Princess of the Lake’ to life
A painting of Lake Ronkonkoma's Princess of the Lake has appeared on a wall at Lake Ronkonkoma.
Evelyn Volgraff from the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society says volunteers recently painted over the wall to cover up graffiti.
She says she had no clue who the artist was after being told the white wall was painted over. Todd Arnett, the artist, says he didn't tell anyone about the painting.
Arnett says he was inspired by the community's devotion to cleaning up the lake and preserving its history.
The mural is not the first piece of public artwork done by Arnett. He has been working on a wood carving of the Princess of the Lake which overlooks the lake for the past few years.
Arnett says he hopes it will remind those who pass by remember the lake's legends and heritage.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Arnett finish the carving of the Princess of the Lake.
