Waste issue addressed in Vernon after 10-year wait
A waste issue in Vernon is now being addressed after a 10-year wait.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has started testing Waste Mountain on Silver Spruce Drive.
Officials say initial testing shows elevated levels of lead and other chemicals.
Congressman Josh Gottheimer says the bulk of it is coming from a polluter named Joe Wallace.
Wallace has already been convicted in New York.
Residents and activists say they are hoping for Wallace to be charged in New Jersey.
