A longtime fixture in the Park Slope community is closing its doors for good after 50 years in business.

The Clay Pot evolved into so much more than a ceramics store over the years. It became somewhat of a novelty shop with each item ready to tell a story.

"We sell everything from candles to diamonds," says owner Tara Silberberg. "I think we were selling flip flops at one point."

Silberberg says the store no longer has a young customer fan base with many of them flocking to online retailers like Etsy.

"Business can't survive without that balance of young and old," says Silberberg. "It was the nuclear option but I feel like it was the right call for the health of the business."

The store will close in the middle of March. Silberberg plans to focus on a new venture in Manhattan.
