Kingsborough CC program offers an education for people with disabilities
Kingsborough Community College is giving people with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to realize their dreams.
The Melissa Riggio Higher Education Program opens the door for people like Joe Zubin, who could not even picture a college career a decade ago.
Zubin struggled through high school and did not have many opportunities beyond that. Fast forward to 2019 and he is working two jobs at a charter school and doing maintenance at a summer camp.
"I don't think I would have that job," Zubin says. He says it was difficult, but the program got him where he needed to go.
Every year, the program places 20 people into one of four colleges in New York City.
At the aforementioned summer camp, Zubin actually works with children with disabilities, showing them firsthand there is no limit to what they can accomplish.
