National Flood Safety Awareness Week is underway
Did you know that flooding kills more people than any other type of severe weather?
This week is National Flood Safety Awareness Week. NOAA and the National Weather Service have teamed up to educate the public about flooding. Our local NWS uses the week to focus on flooding threats common to the tri-state area. Each day of the week highlights a different aspect of flooding:
-The many ways floods can occur (flash flooding, river flooding, ocean storm surge)
-Hazards associated with floods
-What you can do to save life & property
-Flood insurance
Check out the NY NWS Flood Safety Awareness Week page for more information. You can also get a broader look by visiting Flood Safety Tips and Resources on the NWS main page as well as Ready.gov.
