Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on car crash in Passaic County.

Officials say that 19-year-old Victor Weinpel lost control of his Toyota Celica near Greenwood Lake Turnpike, just north of Skyland Drive in Ringwood. The car hit a guardrail and then crashed into a van.

Police say that Weinpel and his 17-year-old male passenger were killed in the crash. The passenger was not identified.

The driver of the van, identified as 64-year-old Paul Barker, was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Grief counselors were on hand at Lakeland Regional High School Thursday where the victims were former students.
