Police say two teens were shot, one of them fatally, in Hempstead Wednesday evening.

A call for shots fired in a parking lot behind 40 West Columbia St. came in just after 5:45 p.m.

Police say the teens, both 16 years old, were taken to a hospital where one of them died of their injuries. They say the other teen suffered a gunshot wound that is not considered life-threatening.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

Nassau County and Hempstead village police were still on scene late Wednesday.
