Police: Man charged in high-speed chase that ended in deadly crash
Police say a fight between two drivers in Valley Stream led to a high-speed chase that ended in an overnight crash in Hempstead and with one man arrested.
News 12 is told that a 22-year-old BMW driver was rear-ended by an Audi, sending the BMW into a fire hydrant and a tree. Surveillance video captured the impact on Baldwin Road. Police say the Audi kept going and side-swiped a parked taxi containing one person and ended up a block away.
"These people knew each other, they were having a fight prior to this, an argument, and got into their vehicles and then started chasing each other...the dispute was in the vehicles at that point," says Nassau Police Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick.
The BMW driver was killed on impact. A 21-year-old female passenger in the car was listed in critical condition.
Nassau County police say the Audi driver, 23-year-old Dana King, of Valley Stream, suffered minor injuries and is facing a manslaughter charge.
The other people involved in the crash have not been identified.
