Pelham Bay community says 7-story construction is not worth it

A new construction project in Pelham Bay is promising a new building with retail space and parking spots, but some neighbors say it's not worth the trouble.
Patrick Stranzl, of the Pelham Bay Civic and Taxpayers Association, says the concerns of the community surrounding the development at 3250 Westchester Ave. are not being addressed. He has the support of Community Board 10, which made a statement about the construction:
“It's a large building in a congested area…we are vigilant because traffic and parking may only get worse."
CB10’s Matthew Cruz says negotiations brought the height of the building from 10 stories down to seven stories. Still, he believes that the retailers and medical tenants in the building will only make the area more congested.
The project is expected to be completed in 2021. News 12 reached out to the development company, but has not heard back.
