Even a few days after Earth Day, a group of volunteers did their part to clean a stretch of the Bronx River Thursday.

A walk along the Bronx River in Olinville will typically bring the sight of cigarette butts, plastic bags and other trash.

That's why volunteers from the Bronx River Alliance, American Express and the Student Conservation Association spent the day picking up junk in an effort to beautify the area.

Organizers say they're focusing on what is known as "micro-trash" like plastic straws, which marine life can mistake for food.

The efforts are part of what they call Earth Month throughout April.
