A state medical examiner says Valarie Reyes, 24, of New Rochelle, died of homicidal asphyxia.
Reyes was found dead bound inside a suitcase on the side the road on Feb. 5.
Her family reported her missing from her New Rochelle home at the end of January.
Her body was found by a town Department of Public Works employee.
Reyes’ former boyfriend, Javier Da Silva, was arrested and charged with kidnapping resulting in murder.
If convicted, Da Silva could face the death penalty.
