A revamped Monmouth rest area on the Garden State Parkway, including New Jersey’s newest Shake Shack location, opened Wednesday following eight months of renovations.
The old Burger King is gone, now replaced by a Shake Shack -- a chain known for hamburgers and ice cream.
The location will be the first Shake Shack in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Another one is under construction at the nearby Monmouth Mall.
The rest stop also features a Starbucks, Auntie Anne's Pretzels and a convenience store.
HMSHost operates the rest area and they say it is similar in layout to the Atlantic County rest area in Galloway Township.
The renovations cost a total of $11.5 million.
