The town of Redding held its annual Memorial Day parade Saturday.

The parade kicked off at the Redding Elementary School, where the event began with a touching ceremony before first responders, local Girl and Boy Scouts and dozens more marched through town.

Gov. Ned Lamont, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and several other lawmakers joined in on the fun as well. But the event really aims to remind people about what the holiday is about – those who put their lives on the line and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The route ended at the Redding Green for flag-raising and flower-planting ceremonies at the memorial stone.

The parade has been a tradition since 1965.
