A busy Bronx corridor in Fordham will be undergoing some new changes.
The area of Arthur and Washington avenues in Fordham is bustling with traffic both behind the wheel and on foot.

To help improve safety for both pedestrians and drivers, the city's Department of Transportation is moving forward with a construction project along the busy corridor.

Work is scheduled to begin this month on Fordham Road between Arthur and Washington avenues.
Under the construction plan four new pedestrian islands will be built, street markings will be repainted and new signals will be installed.

The new safety changes from Washington Avenue to Arthur Avenue are part of the East Fordham Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project, which is part of the Vision Zero Initiative to eliminate pedestrian fatalities in the city.
