Police have arrested a man suspected of beating and raping a 20-year-old woman on top of a Mott Haven apartment building.
Police say 23-year-old Temar Bishop has been charged with attempted murder, rape, two counts of assault and sexual abuse in an attack that happened just after 5 a.m. on June 1.
They say Bishop punched a 20-year-old woman multiple times in the face, raped her, and then continued to beat the woman until she lost consciousness. The woman was left with a fractured nose, numerous lacerations and missing teeth.
Police say some of the charges are in relation to a hate crime due to the words Bishop shouted at the woman. Officials haven't confirmed what exactly Bishop said to the victim.
The victim was treated at an area hospital.
