More than a dozen people are left to pick up the pieces after three homes were destroyed in Midwood last week in what was deemed by the fire department as arson.
Those who live in the affected homes on East 17th Street had to scramble out of their home, leaving behind their personal belongings last Thursday morning.
In response, community members have been generous, donating clothing, school bags, food and much more to help those in need. Now, the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition says money is needed and have set up a page to collect donations.
"We're all a volunteer organization, so there's no overhead involved, every penny goes to the family in need," says Josh Mehlman, of the FJCC.
The FJCC says it is committed to helping residents, even after they move back in to permanent housing.
