Cops: Man intentionally struck officers with van during traffic stop

Investigators say Robert McDowell was pulled over around 6:25 p.m. Thursday on Smith Road and was found to be driving with a suspended license.

Police say two plain clothes officers were injured during a traffic stop in Ridge, and the driver hit them on purpose.
Investigators say Robert McDowell was pulled over around 6:25 p.m. Thursday on Smith Road and was found to be driving with a suspended license.
According to police, the Bohemia man refused to get out of his van and put it in drive, injuring both cops.
The officers chased the van, and say they saw McDowell tossing contraband from the window.
McDowell was eventually caught and charged with numerous crimes, including assault and resisting arrest.
