Residents headed out to Long Beach Sunday for the 29th annual pride parade.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, but members of the LGBT community fought back. Violent protests continued for three days, leading to the birth of the gay rights movement.

The grand marshals of the parade were Stonewall activists and survivors. The current owners of the Stonewall Inn were also the grand marshals.

The lessons and spirit of Stonewall were with many people who marched on the streets of Long Beach. They say they've come a long way in 50 years.

"Fifty years later, the police are protecting us," said Stonewall Inn co-owner Kurt Kelly. "Fifty years ago they were putting us in jail. That's an accomplishment right there, but we have another 50 years to go."

Pride on the Beach kicked off Friday and continued throughout the weekend before it wrapped up with the parade.
