Some street changes are coming to Belmont as the Department of Transportation moves forward with its Vision Zero plans.

Beaumont Avenue was split by East 187th Street, running southbound until the intersection where it becomes a northbound road. But that changed Monday.

To make the area safer for pedestrians, the DOT has started to install high visibility crosswalks with new road markings and stop signs.

Beaumont Avenue will now be a northbound road from East 187th Street to 189th Street. East 189th Street will also become an eastbound only street, from Beaumont Avenue to Crotona Avenue.

The DOT has included the project in its Vision Zero initiative, hoping to enhance accessibility and pedestrian visibility, while improving traffic concerns in one of the busiest areas in the borough.
