Noise complaints top borough's quality-of-life concern list

Noise complaints top the list of quality-of-life concerns in the Bronx, according to city agency 311.
More than 53,000 noise complaints were made to 311 from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, the agency says. In fact, noise complaints remain the top quality-of-life issue in the entire city, the agency reports.
Statistics show that Norwood, University Heights, Fordham, Bedford Park and Kingsbridge Heights currently have the most noise complaints made to 311. Current complaints from these neighborhoods total more than 13,000.
Other complaints include garbage and dirty conditions, which rank second among the list of 311 complaints in the borough. Graffiti also makes the list.
In a statement, a Department of Sanitation spokesperson said in part, "Keeping New York City streets and neighborhoods clean is a top priority for the city Sanitation Department. We take all 311 calls regarding sanitation issues seriously and our staff look into every one of them. In response to some of these calls, we have cleaned areas and vacant lots in the borough that were used for illegal dumping and improper trash disposal, removed derelict vehicles off Bronx streets, and have issued summonses for dirty area, littering, illegal dumping, and other sanitation-related violations."
