Visitors of Bath Beach Park say its bathrooms are constantly closed, causing headaches for families and claiming adults are instead using the park as their toilet.
The park's bathrooms were open Wednesday, but Bensonhurst's Robert Fischman says that's a fluke. In his six years living in the area, he has only seen it open a handful of times.
Fischman says it makes days out with his kids difficult and uncomfortable. He claims he has seen grown men walk behind the bathroom building to relieve themselves right within eye sight of young kids. When his kids have to go, he says he makes the 25-minute walk home.
"I just hope that people understand how hard it is for, at least for the parents, to take their kids to a public park where there's no restroom," says Fischman. "If you're an older male without kids, I mean it's very easy to be like, I'm just going to go around the corner, but you have to take into consideration that there's families here."
The Parks Department responded with a statement saying, "The comfort station at Bath Beach Park is open. This comfort station has a unique design that features iron gates as the point of entry. While they may look intimidating, these gates just require a good, hard push to get in." They went on to say they will add signs outside the station to prevent any confusion.
