Loved ones of a Crown Heights woman who passed away suddenly last year are giving children a gift in her memory.
Dr. Hindi Krinsky suddenly passed away last year at the age of 32 from a Crohn's Disease complication.
To continue the Brooklyn-born high school teacher's legacy, family and friends began collecting gently used books to create free-standing libraries for children in the neighborhood.
Her husband and co-worker, Dovid Kanarfogel, tells News 12 they quickly received about 500 books.

"When I realized how involved people wanted to be, we realized we can make this bigger,” says Kanarfogel.

Kanarfogel and others began setting up drop-off boxes for Hindi's Libraries, like the one at Benz's Gourmet in Crown Heights. They then stamped them with Hindi's photo and story to be shipped out to children ready to bury their heads on in.

"We've worked with some schools that work with special needs kids; legal aid societies have kids coming to their offices with all kinds of family issues, homeless shelters,” says Kanarfogel.

The founders tell News 12 they are accepting all kinds of books from Dr. Seuss for younger children to high school literature, and they're shipping them all over the world.

"We have partnered with over 300 organizations, all 50 states, Puerto Rico, internationally; wherever there's a need for books, we will send them,” says Kanarfogel.

Hindi's family, friends, co-workers and community are continuing her lessons in her honor.

"20 years, 30 years, a grandchild of an organization we give a book to, you might still have that book and say that ‘oh my goodness’ at this book that was donated in Hindi's memory continuing her legacy, generations will learn the importance of kindness in giving, so it is not only the literacy component, but giving is easy so those two together is beautiful,” says Leslie Gang, co-founder.
