About 200 freshmen from Fordham University took part Monday in the urban plunge, a pre-orientation program to get new students involved in their community.
The students volunteer at different Bronx sites before classes begin. While they get acclimated to their new environment, they also learn and become aware of the needs of the neighborhoods around them.
Freshman Kevin James volunteered at the nonprofit social services agency, Part of the Solution, or POTS, by serving food to those in need.
The relationship between POTS and Fordham run deep – student volunteers helped start the nonprofit back in 1982.
