Fallen NYPD detectives remembered at Community Day

Posted: Updated:

Two NYPD detectives who were killed during an ambush attack in 2014 were honored Saturday during the fifth annual Community Day in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The event included a basketball tournament where the young players wore jerseys bearing the names of Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

Their families were in attendance.

"This is keeping the community and the police department together,” says Sindy Ramos, Rafael’s sister. “We're going to have a better place for us to live."

Organizers say the event grows larger each year.
