One Bronx school is kicking off football season on a brand new field.
The Mount Saint Michael Academy Mountaineers played their home opener Saturday against Holy Cross on their new field. The Rocco B. Commisso field is complete with synthetic turf.
The field is part of the Phyllis and Angelo Mozilo '56 Sports Complex. Other recent upgrades include the resurfaced Brother Linus Carroll FMS track, and new bleacher stands, press box and scoreboard at Vincent Promuto Stadium.
The school's principal says the upgrades are worth approximately $ million.
The new sports complex was made possible by school benefactors and alumni, who say they are setting the stage for future success.
Shovels hit the ground on the project right after Thanksgiving to make the upgrades ready in time for the 2019 season.
