NYPD: Armed suspect shot in police-involved shooting at Williamsbridge subway station

A man armed with a gun on the subway platform at East 225th Street and White Plains Road was shot by police early Wednesday morning.
The NYPD addressed the shooting, saying they got a 911 call about a man firing shots at the train station.
Police say that is when officers from the 47th Precinct made their way to East 225th Street and White Plains Road just after midnight and were directed to the southbound platform.
According to authorities the officers encountered a man holding a gun and two of those responding officers fired several rounds hitting the suspect in his left shoulder. It is unclear if the man fired his gun.
Detectives say they recovered a firearm from the scene.
"A .380 caliber semi-automatic firearm was recovered at the scene next to the suspect as he was taken into custody at the platform," says NYPD Assistant Chief Larry W. Nikunen.
Police say the suspect is a 27-year-old with an extensive criminal history. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
News 12 is told he is expected to be OK.
