A police officer was involved in a collision Thursday on the eastbound side of the LIE at Exit 52 near Commack.

The officer was in his vehicle at a traffic stop when he was rear-ended by another driver.

The driver who hit the police car was airlifted to the hospital. The officer and one other person were also taken for treatment.

News 12 is told the injuries were not life-threatening.
