Neighbors say drivers in Bedford Park who are doing whatever they can to find parking spaces are creating safety risks for pedestrians in the area.

Photos taken by a resident in the area of Perry Avenue and East 201st Street show parked vehicles jutting out into the street. They say it endangers pedestrians who are attempting to cross, and obscures the view of drivers who are trying to turn.

Neighbors say the problem has gotten worse and they blame a lack of parking enforcement.

Resident Sadra Mahonski, who has had two knee replacements, says she struggles to cross the street. Her fiance, Mathew Cabret, says he's only seen one ticket handed out in nearly a year.

The city's Department of Transportation allows drivers to park in unmarked crosswalks at some T-intersections, like the one at Perry Avenue and East Mosholu Parkway South. That's even if there are pedestrian curb cuts, according to its website.

News 12 reached out to police for comment, and was told they were working on preparing a statement on the matter. News 12 also contacted the DOT and is awaiting a response.
