Surveillance video captured a suspect brutally beating an older man inside an elevator in Belmont.
It happened Friday around 11 p.m. inside an apartment building elevator on Southern Boulevard and 187th Street.
Video shows the two men getting onto the elevator and the suspect appearing to ask the victim what floor he was getting off at. Seconds later, the suspect is seen pummeling the 67-year-old veteran.
He was kicked and punched multiple times and authorities say the suspect got away with nothing. Before he took off, video shows him using his sleeve to wipe down the door, possibly to remove any finger prints left behind.
The victim tells News 12 he knows the man who attacked him to the floor, but has no idea why he did it.
He described yelling for help, but the security guard that was supposed to be guarding the entrance never came.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black du-rag, a gray hooded sweater and had on a black bag across his chest.
Officers believe he got away in a dark-colored minivan.
News 12 is told the victim was treated at a VA Medical Center for lacerations to his face.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
