A former Long Islander is suing the Salvation Army and a former commander for alleged sex abuse.

According to documents, a high-ranking commander in East Northport abused a woman in the early 1990s.

Nicole Sprout, who now lives in Florida, says she was sexually abused between the ages of 13 and 16.

News 12 is not identifying the man Sprout says abused her since he has not been criminally charged.

The lawsuit was filed under the New York Child Victims Act, which opened a one-year window in the statute of limitations for victims to come forward.
