An Irish dance company based in New York is set to spread some holiday cheer across Westport this weekend.
Brooklyn Irish Dance Company co-founder Erin O'Donnell says "A Celtic Christmas Story" represents everything her new company set out to do.
The show, which blends a Christmas narrative with Irish music and dancing, opened with two off-Broadway performances last December.
"Both were sold out, which was incredible, and this year we're bringing it to Connecticut for the first time," says O'Donnell.
The dances may be complicated, but it all starts and ends with simple steps.
"We've had some elements of tap-dancing in our performances before, we've had elements of contemporary dancing," says O'Donnell.
"It's kind of a love story, you've got great Christmas music, lots of fun dancing," says dancer Meghan Lucey.
Lucey, a Connecticut native, says the only thing better than dancing in New York City is coming back home.
"Being able to work on something you're proud of with some of your best friends in the world, and then to be able to share it with the people you love most, there's nothing better than that," says Lucey.
Tickets are still on sale for the Saturday show at the Westport Country Playhouse.
