A foundation is helping kids being treated in city hospitals alleviate stress by letting them cruise around in style.
The Paul Luisi Foundation has donated 12 mini electric cars to seven city hospitals.
At the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, 5-year-old Lenia Cousley took a ride in a mini Mercedes car donated by the foundation. She has been getting treatment for leukemia at the hospital since the summer.
Now, she is able to make the treatment less stressful as she rolls up to the operating room in her car.
Laveen Edwards, her mother, says the car has helped to boost her daughter’s confidence, especially during some of the tougher procedures.
“For a 5-year-old, that’s really frustrating and overwhelming, and I think this makes it fun for them,” says Edwards.
