The view from Nick Evangelista's Vintage Subs shop on Bangs avenue will change when construction on a multilevel parking garage begins.
"I think it's going to be a good thing once it happens," he says. "Long time coming but, it's really overdue."
He and other business owners say they will welcome the construction if it means more parking for residents, employees and visitors of the downtown.
The design for the $15 million parking garage comes from the firm TimHaahs, whose past endeavors include modern train stations and a new garage at Yankee Stadium.
According to Michael Manzella, the city's director of transportation, construction will begin once the final design is chosen. The goal, Manzella says, is to start construction this summer and open the garage by the start of summer 2021.
