Brooklyn hospital with COVID-19 patients now offers rapid testing

A Brooklyn hospital that is only taking coronavirus patients now has rapid testing for those people.

University Hospital of Brooklyn is a COVID-19-only facility and now it can find out if a person has been infected in just 45 minutes.

The new testing comes after local leaders sent a letter to the CDC asking for a testing machine that would allow them to test 1,500 people.
That machine has not been made available, but new rapid testing is now underway.
Local leaders say this testing is important, especially in Brooklyn. Kings County is second in the state behind Queens with the most cases.
"They still need all the equipment that they can because there is a very big demand and need and desire for regular testing with results,” says Brooklyn Assemblymember Nick Perry.
Perry hopes the federal government will step in and provide the equipment needed to better respond to the pandemic.
