The president unveiled new guidelines for reopening the Unites States Monday night.

One of the things President Donald Trump said is that states should seriously consider reopening public schools before the end of the academic year.

So far, no decisions have been made on the public school system in New York City.

One of his remarks coming as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention work to finalize guidelines for reopening the economy. When it comes to schools, guidelines include putting students’ desk six feet apart, closing the playgrounds and serving meals in the classroom.

The president says his three-phased approach to opening the country back up is based on the advice of public and health experts.

He says states should develop their own plans for testing and tracing the coronavirus and that turning to the federal government for testing materials should be a last resort.

He also encourages states to test at least 2% of their population, focusing on emergency workers and vulnerable individuals.

An initial reopening plan was announced earlier this month but did not specify how to proceed without widespread testing.
