Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that the city is looking ahead to what social distancing will look like in the coming months.

The city is working on a summer plan to make sure people can enjoy the outdoors while staying safe.

The past few days have been some of the warmest New York has seen this season, and as expected people are enjoying the outdoors and parks.

The mayor says they will release a summer plan, but didn't provide many specifics, only saying the plan will address things like beach openings and celebrations, including the Fourth of July.

He did say beaches will not be opening on Memorial Day.

He says distributing face masks to the public is still a big priority to his office. Today people in Williamsburg at McCaren Park lined up to get free face masks. announcing that face coverings will be available in parks across the city, at NYCHA housing, grocery stores and grab-and-go meal locations.

Mayor de Blasio say they will hand out face masks continuously in the weeks to come.

He also commended New Yorkers for following social distancing and encouraged the city to keep it up.
