The NYPD released data indicating that officers have issued 370 summonses and made multiple arrests for social distancing violations.

The data shows that 80% of the summonses were given to black and Hispanic people, and were given between March 16 to May 5.

The NYPD says it had more than 1 million contacts with the public regarding social distancing awareness and enforcement.

Throughout the interactions, 374 summonses were issued - 193 of them were issued to black people, and 111 were issued to Hispanic community members.

In the Bronx, out of 22 arrests, 16 people were people of color. In Brooklyn, 40 people were arrested - and 35 were black.

Public Advocate Juumane Williams calls this unacceptable.

Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network held a virtual rally Saturday, accusing the NYPD of racial profiling with its enforcement of social distancing.

Sharpton says there is unfair treatment across the city and that he is working with other local leaders to address how the NYPD is responding to communities of color during the pandemic.
