The theme park in Florida asked state and local officials Thursday to allow them to reopen, with new safety protocols put in place.
The plan was unanimously approved by Orange County's Economic Recovery Task Force, but now must be approved by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
If it goes through, Universal Orlando would become one of the country's largest theme parks to reopen.

According to a presentation made to the local economic recovery task force by company officials, a reopened Universal would look very different for visitors and employees.
Valet parking will not be available, and cars will park one or two spaces apart. Visitors and employees will receive temperature checks and will be required to wear face coverings. The theme park will provide disposable face masks for visitors who don't bring their own.
Universal, Walt Disney World and SeaWorld have been closed since mid-March.
