Thousands of people in two groups merged in Brooklyn Saturday and made their way over the Brooklyn Bridge as marches and protests in the wake of George Floyd’s police-custody death continued for a 17th day.
One of the groups started at Barclays Center while the other began at Grand Army Plaza.
They had signs and chanted for justice for Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
Taylor, who was studying to become a nurse, was shot eight times by officers conducting a narcotics investigation on March 13 in Louisville, Kentucky. No drugs were found at her home.
Protesters applauded Gov. Andrew Cuomo signing police reforms into law but are calling for the officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death to be charged.
At his daily briefing Saturday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo told demonstrators, "you don't need to protest, you won you accomplished your goal."
On the matter ask of "defunding the police," City Council Speaker Corey Johnson pointed to $1 billion in cuts to the NYPDs budget - a proposal that Mayor Bill de Blasio rejected.
