The Food and Drug Administration is warning the public not to use certain types of hand sanitizers that may be toxic if absorbed through the skin or ingested.

The FDA says that Mexico-based Eskbiochem SA de CV manufactures the products, which may contain methanol - otherwise known as wood alcohol. The agency says that methanol is “not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects.”

The products have been identified as:

Anyone who may have used these products should seek medical treatment for possible methanol poisoning.

“Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death,” the FDA wrote in a statement.
