Eight survivors were reunited with the EMS workers that saved their lives today during an event at Randalls Island.
The Second Chance Brunch was an opportunity for Brownsville teacher Cynthia Herbert to thank the responding EMS rescue workers who saved her life after she collapsed in front of her sixth-grade class last September. Herbert told her class prior to the incident that she suffered from heart disease and how to respond if a medical emergency occurred. Her class sprang into action and soon, EMS workers brought Herbert back to life using a defibrillator.
"It is just an amazing feeling," said Herbert about thanking her rescuers. "I am just so grateful."
This was the 18th year of the Second Chance Brunch.
