16h agoThousands took part in the 13th annual Vicki Soto 5K Saturday at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport.
Soto was killed protecting her students from a mass shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.
The event not only celebrated Soto's life, but her love of teaching and passion for literacy.
"Vicki Soto was a fighter who protected so many kids. All I can say is that she's a fighter and she's a hero for all of us," says participant Nicole Toribio
Proceeds benefit Vicki Soto Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships to high school seniors who plan to major in education.
