Asbury Park HS head football coach put on leave after he was allegedly found drunk, naked on field
The Asbury Park High School head football coach, two assistant coaches and the athletic director have all been placed on administrative leave following the alleged actions of the head coach.
Asbury Park police say that around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday they received a call about a possible trespasser at the high school football field.
Officers allegedly found head coach Nicholas Famularo half-naked and seemingly drunk. Police say that Famularo’s lower half was only covered by a football jersey. He told police that he was locked out of the locker room.
Police say that when they went into the locker room they found several football uniforms with vomit on them.
Police have also confirmed an argument between Famularo, his girlfriend and another woman.
Despite the incident, Famularo was on the sidelines hours later at the team’s game in southwest New Jersey near Carneys Point. The athletic director and assistant coaches apparently were not aware of the incident until that evening. They have been placed on leave pending an investigation
The football team was at the stadium practicing on Thursday. They will be coached by Robert Ward until the investigation is complete.
Famularo has not been charged with a crime.
