The community of Bedford is hosting its first ever Juneteenth celebration this weekend.
It comes as Juneteenth became a federal holiday on Thursday.
The community says it is joyous about what it is calling a “very momentous occasion."
The event will be part entertainment and part educational - tracing the role that Black Americans have played in the community since its founding.
The Bedford community has been around since the late 1600s.
"It's not a holiday just for Blacks. It's a holiday that is rich in history in terms of Black culture and the many contributions that we've made to this economy. It's a national American holiday and that's what it should be, and we are just getting going in Bedford," says Bedford Town Supervisor Maryann Carr.
