A statewide driving safety campaign that enforces seatbelt use is now underway in Connecticut.
Police departments across the state are taking part in the annual “Click It Or Ticket” campaign.
As part of the campaign, police are taking part in a border-to-border initiative today.
Officers will be at the borders of Massachusetts and Rhode Island for seatbelt enforcement.
Officers will be focused on seatbelt violations through the first week of June.
Officials say last year, 118 Connecticut residents were killed in crashes because they weren't wearing a seatbelt.
They add the current seatbelt compliance rate is 91.5% which is down from 93.7% in 2019.
Connecticut law now requires all drivers and passengers in both the front and back seats to wear a seatbelt.
Fines start at $92 for a first offense.
