The family of Cynthia Vann, along with their legal team, announced on Thursday that they are suing Lincoln Hospital for $20 million.
Cynthia died from her injuries later that month.
Haughton, who was initially on the run, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, along with other assault charges.
The lawsuit documents claims that Haughton was known to the hospital to have a history of aggression and violence.
Cynthia's mother, Rosemary Vann, says her daughter was unrecognizable after the attack and to this day, her family has not heard from Lincoln.
"I have not yet been told exactly how it occurred. How or what was used to damage her in such a way. I haven't heard anything from the hospital about anything," says Rosemary Vann.
News 12 reached out to Lincoln Hospital, and it responded with the following statement:
“NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln is committed to the safety of its patients, staff, and visitors.”
