With Connecticut's COVID-19 positivity rate rising, will hospitals see an even bigger surge in patients?
Across the state, nearly four out of five hospitalized COVID patients are unvaccinated. In some Fairfield County facilities and at Greenwich Hospital, that number is even higher.
"We are still not at a point where we can feel comfortable at all and it's really starting to overwhelm our hospitals," said Dr. Karen Santucci of Greenwich Hospital.
St. Vincent's Medical Center is part of the Hartford HealthCare system. At a news conference Tuesday, the chief officer said they think the surge could still turn around.
"Somewhat of a slow increase everyday for the last several weeks now. We think it's going to continue to rise at the moment and hopefully settle down some time in early part of January," said Dr. Ajay Kumar.
Tuesday marked one year since Hartford HealthCare began vaccinations.
In Connecticut, unvaccinated people are 15 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than vaccinated people, officials say.
