Low water pressure prompts state of emergency in parts of Mercer County

Officials declared a state of emergency for parts of Mercer County on Friday due to issues with water pressure.
The emergency impacts Robbinsville, Hamilton and some surrounding areas. Residents are being advised to not use their water unless absolutely necessary.
Aqua New Jersey officials say that the issues are due to an unexpected well failure that happened Thursday. The issue was supposed to be resolved overnight.
The company says that the pressure gradient was supposed to be increasing by now, but a mechanical issue is preventing this.
“Our customers can help the system recover faster by conserving water. Please discontinue non-essential water activities, and reduce water usage by taking shorter showers, stopping lawn irrigation and minimizing the use of washers and dishwashers,” the company wrote in a statement.
Some area schools were closed on Friday, while others were dismissed early due to the issue.
There is no timeline for when repairs will be made.
